August 15th

On this day in 1939, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, was first shown on the big screen in Hollywood.
The movie is based on the novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ by L Frank Baum, written in 1900.

The Wizard of Oz is an incredibly great movie. Personally, I think that Dorothy is pretty whiny, and that the Wizard is the real hero of the story (see the 2013 movie Oz the Great and Powerful (but that doesn’t do him justice either)).

But that being said – the image of Judy Garland, clicking those sparkling red heels together, and repeating “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.” – is permanently sketched into the minds of generation upon generation.
