On this day in 1897 Enid Blyton was born.
Possibly one of the most famous British children’s authors, Blyton published over 600 books in her 40 year career – they were translated into 70 different languages, and she sold over 60 million copies.
Some of her most well known series include; ‘The Famous Five’, ‘The Secret Seven’, ‘Noddy’, ‘Amelia Jane’, ‘The Wishing Chair’, and ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’.
Her stories have been loved by children, from pen to paper, for almost a century. Many of the stories have been published, over and over again, and others have become much loved television series.
From everyone who, like me, grew up on Enid Blyton’s incredible imagination, an enormous thank you.
You did more to change the way girls were viewed in children’s books than anyone before, not to mention the dedication to your work, and the incitement of hundreds and thousands of imaginations.
Happy Birthday Enid Blyton, and forever, thank you!
