August 4th

On this day in 1901 Louis Armstrong was born. The singer, nick named Satchmo, is most famous for his works ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’, ‘Hello Dolly’ and ‘What A Wonderful World’.

Born into extreme poverty in Louisiana, Armstrong grew up to play the trumpet like no body before him and had a world wide influence on music.

Refusing to play in his home town until clubs became integrated in 1964, his most famous quote is thus; “If you gotta ask what jazz is, man you’ll never know.”
