August 2nd

On this day in 1870, Tower Subway, the world’s first underground train system, opened in London.
It didn’t become the London Underground until 1985 and throughout its lifetime has continued to grow and spread across the entirety of Old London Town.

For over 143 years, the Tube has accommodated commuters, office monkeys, non-drivers, noisy teenagers, the elderly, mums with prams, school kids, homeless people and musicians alike.
We can only thank God that those sliding doors, sticky seats and musky scent, do not discriminate.
